Who are the Sun Fund?

The Sun Fund is a Cape Town-based non-profit (registration in progress). We believe a solar installation can do more than keep the lights on: it can feed people, teach skills and give young people something to build.

Our mission

To build solar and battery systems at schools and health centres that provide free electricity, host community food production and serve as centres for youth learning and enterprise.

Our vision

A South Africa where every community institution runs on clean power, and every solar site is a source of food, skills and hope.

Our team

  • Kevin Robinson, co-founder.

  • Ralph Berold, co-founder.

We are forming a board of trustees and advisers from the energy, finance, education and community sectors. We're supported by audit and legal partners, and will grow a team of staff and volunteers as projects launch.

Work with us

We're at an early stage, and the partners who join now will shape what The Sun Fund becomes. We'd like to hear from:

  • Schools, clinics and community institutions with unused roof, land or parking space, through our Social Partners Programme

  • Solar and battery companies willing to share expertise, through our Industry Partner Programme

  • Grant makers and impact investors interested in grants, debt or equity

  • Professional service firms offering audit, legal or marketing support

  • Government agencies that can help with funding connections and enabling policies
